It’s well recognised that patients with chronic and acute heart failure suffer from iron deficiency, which greatly affects their quality of life reducing their exercise capacity and feeling of well-being. It is also associated with more severe symptoms and a poorer prognosis.
It’s estimated that almost half of all heart failure patients are anaemic so it’s vitally important that we accurately diagnose iron deficiency in our heart failure patients and optimally treat it. Too often, its management is suboptimal.
This may be because oral iron products in heart failure have not been particularly effective. But newer, intravenous iron products do show good efficacy and are recommended in guidelines but its regular administration can be challenging for patients and health care services.
To help update you with current thinking on iron deficiency in heart failure, including its prevalence, its clinical impact, the current guidelines, treatment options and practical tips on service implementation, we are urging you to join our experts and the discussion in our webinar ‘Intravenous iron in heart failure’.
We are able to provide this webinar free of charge to health care professionals, thanks to funding from Pharmacosmos UK Limited.
The Cardiorenal Forum organised the programme and selected the speakers.
